1 dead, 1 wounded in Chicago Lawn shooting – Chicago Tribune

Two years ago, Darryl Manns Jr. lost his brother to street violence.

Tuesday night, Manns met the same fate. He was killed when someone opened fire near the intersection of 59th Street and Francisco Avenue in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side, police said. A 15-year-old boy was also killed.

Manns, 22, was walking from his home to a convenience store around 7 p.m. when he was shot, according to his sister, Krystle Banks.

Their older brother, Kevin Banks, was slain in July of 2010near 81st Street and Winchester Avenue, she said. He was 26.

Tuesday night’s shooting also claimed the life of Alejandro Valdez, 15. He was struck in the back and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he later died, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Valdez, of the 5900 block of South Talman Avenue, wasthe second 15-year-old boy to die in a shooting Tuesday.

As many as 50 onlookers stood behind yellow tape as beat officers, detectives and evidence technicians canvassed the scene.
